Baylor in Madrid: Summer Session 1

Summer 2025 Madrid

Immerse yourself in Spain’s vibrant capital while earning up to six Spanish credits through language and culture courses. In Madrid, students live with local host families for an authentic daily experience and enjoy excursions to Toledo, Seville, Valencia, Granada, and other iconic cities. The program includes engaging cultural activities such as flamenco lessons, cooking classes, and guided tours. With Madrid’s safe and efficient public transportation, exploring the city and its attractions is easy. Enjoy sunny June days, welcoming hosts, and an experience of academic growth, culture, and adventure in one of Europe’s most famous cities.

Student Perspectives:

“The most valuable lesson I took away from studying abroad was the ability to become more confident speaking Spanish. Especially because on my trip we lived with host families, I was able to really improve my Spanish fluency!” -Ryley DeBella (BU ‘26)

“There’s no such thing as too many tapas!” -Alyssa Damian (BU ‘26)

A note from program director, Professor Laura Fraga:

Laura Llamas Fraga

I’m Dr. Fraga, originally from Spain. I was born and spent my early years in Madrid, which happens to be my favorite city in the world! That’s one of the reasons I love being part of Baylor in Madrid. I’ve already joined the program three times and can’t wait to go back again. Madrid is the capital of Spain, a vibrant city full of life, history, and art. We'll visit the Prado Museum, attend a concert, learn how to prepare authentic Spanish tapas and so much more! Because Madrid is right in the heart of Spain, it’s the perfect place to explore the rest of the country! We’ll check out the medieval city of Toledo, the history and charm of Segovia, the sunny vibes of Seville and Granada down south, and the Mediterranean coast in Valencia. What really makes this program special, though, is that students live with host families — the best way to experience daily Spanish life by sharing meals and practicing your Spanish in real situations. Studying abroad changes who you are and how you see the world. It’s an experience you’ll carry with you for life! If you love Spanish, there’s no better classroom than Madrid itself. ¡Nos vemos en Madrid!

Baylor in Denia, Spain: Summer Session 2

Summer 2025 Denia Spain

Spend over four weeks on Spain’s sunny Mediterranean coast while earning up to six Spanish credits. This immersive program combines academics with hands-on experience, including a week of volunteer work with local children at a private school. Students stay in dorm-style housing within walking distance of beaches and explore iconic cities such as Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona, Granada, and Toledo. With a low program fee and strong faculty support, Baylor in Denia offers an unforgettable opportunity to strengthen language skills, experience Spanish culture, and make lifelong memories.

Student Perspectives:

“Participating in this program was the best thing I could’ve done. I learned so much and really got to immerse myself in the culture.” -Citlali Salinas (BU ‘28)

“I chose to study abroad to broaden my horizons and to enjoy an experience I knew I may never have the opportunity to again.” -Lou Royal (BU ‘24)

A note from program director, Dr. Scott Spinks:

Scott Spinks

I’m Dr. Scott Spinks, and I’ve been traveling to Spain for over 25 years. I love showing it to people who haven’t been before. I have participated in Baylor in Denia, Spain four times now. Denia is a Mediterranean beach town with a charming city center. Living there, students and professors get around the European way- we walk. On campus at the Alfa y Omega school, we live and eat together. We work hard, have a great time, and students form wonderful friendships. I love the program because it hits so many of Spain’s best sights: the Prado Museum, the Alhambra at Granada, and Barcelona, a unique and vibrant city that everyone needs to see. To the students, I ask: Why take your Spanish classes on campus? Come with us and see an amazing country! You’ll remember your time in Spain for the rest of your life. ¡Nos vemos en España!
