Student Spotlights
After graduating from Baylor, I plan to pursue a Juris Doctor and work in transactional law or a climate-related legal practice. I hope to use my Japanese in my future career as an attorney by connecting and working with lawyers and other professionals overseas. I plan to combine the Japanese language skills I have developed with the legal skills I will gain in law school to build relationships with Japanese professionals, help resolve legal issues, and facilitate business between Japan and the United States. Ideally, I would like to work in-house for an American company in Japan. Learning Japanese has allowed me to see this future come into view.

Before coming to Baylor, I knew I would have to take a language course, and when I heard that Japanese was offered here, I was thrilled. I had taken a few Japanese classes in middle school, so I thought, why not take it again in college? I am so glad I did. Taking Japanese at Baylor has challenged me academically and personally. It has taught me time management and discipline with my assignments. While I once had a big fear of public speaking, Japanese classes have helped me overcome that fear, and I am now much more confident speaking both English and Japanese. I’ve met so many great people, especially through exchanges with Japanese students from Hosei University and Seinan Gakuin University. I have also had many fun experiences, including studying abroad in Fukuoka, Japan, for a semester, which I will never forget. All in all, I would definitely recommend taking Japanese at Baylor!
