Course Selection
Students must first register for a semester or year abroad on the Bears Abroad website. Each student must register for 12-18 credit hours at Baylor in order to maintain full-time status. Students attending the program in Caen will ask the exchange program coordinator at Baylor to send their “nomination” to the exchange university contact at the Carré International. Students will need to know whether they plan to stay in the dormitory or with a host family at the time the nomination is sent. Students complete the Equivalent Course Approval Form, ask the exchange program director to sign it, and submit it to the Center for Global Engagement (CGE). The CGE will register each student for the semester abroad. Once students are accepted to the host university, they will take a placement exam that determines which courses they will register for at the host university. Students do not officially register for courses at the host university until after their arrival in France. The course catalog is available here. Note that you can take courses in French and/or in English:
Registration Fees
Each student will pay all tuition costs directly to Baylor, at the same rate as if the student were on campus. In addition to this, some additional application fees are required.
Housing Procedures
Students may stay in either a residence hall, which offers single rooms with shared bathrooms, or with a French family. Please note that a family stay is at an additional cost (in addition to paying room and board to Baylor). The Caen Exchange Program study abroad coordinator at Baylor will contact the coordinator at the Carré International at the University of Caen with your lodging preferences once you have begun the application process. Students living in the dormitory or staying with a host family must fill in the online application.
Housing Fees
All students must pay room and board to Baylor (11 meal plan/dorm plan). Once in Caen, you will receive a food allowance in euros from the Carré International. You must open a bank account in France in order to deposit and cash your monthly checks. You will need an address and/or proof of residence from your host family in order to open a bank account. Students have found Société Générale bank to the most helpful.
Health Procedures
Each student is required to complete a health and legal release prior to departure. Also, each student is required to carry HTH International Health Insurance. All students should have adequate medical insurance. All students are required to purchase a student insurance medical card once they arrive in France. A student insurance card costs roughly 200 euros.
Documents Required
*Passport * As for visas, the students must first apply to Campus France. Once they have their “attestation” they can make an appointment with the Consulate.
Pre-inscription
