Intensive Summer Japanese Language Program

This is a six-week faculty-led program that offers students an immersive experience in Japanese language and culture. Students travel to several locations in Japan, including Tokyo, Sendai, Fukuoka, and Kasama, while developing their Japanese language skills and learning about Japanese society and culture through firsthand experiences. The program combines language study with project-based experiential learning, allowing students to explore topics related to their majors and personal interests. Through interactions with Japanese university students, local communities, and cultural activities, students deepen their understanding of Japan while applying their language skills in real-world settings.

Hosei University - Tokyo, Japan

Semester exchange program - Fall & Spring

This program offers Baylor students the opportunity to study in Tokyo and experience life in one of the world’s most dynamic cities. Students may participate for one semester (fall or spring) or one academic year and take courses through the Exchange Students from Overseas Program (ESOP). The program offers a variety of courses taught in English focusing on Japanese society, culture, business, economics, international relations, and other areas, as well as Japanese language courses from beginning through advanced levels. Students with advanced Japanese proficiency may also take regular university courses taught in Japanese. The program provides students with opportunities to improve their Japanese language skills, deepen their understanding of contemporary Japan, and interact with Japanese and international students.

Seinan Gakuin University, Fukuoka, Japan

Semester program offered one semester (Fall or Spring) or one academic year

This program offers Baylor students the opportunity to study in Fukuoka, one of Japan’s largest and most vibrant cities. Students may participate for one semester (fall or spring) or one academic year, taking Japanese language courses as well as courses focusing on Japanese culture, history, business, politics, and other areas of Japan Studies. Japanese language courses are available from beginning through advanced levels, and most other courses are taught in English. The program provides students with opportunities to improve their Japanese language skills, experience Japanese culture firsthand, and interact with Japanese and international students in a welcoming and international environment

Tohoku University, Sendai, Miyagi, Japan

Semester program offered in Spring or one academic year

This program offers Baylor students the opportunity to study in Sendai, a major city in northeastern Japan. Baylor students are especially encouraged to participate in the Junior Year Program in English (JYPE), designed for international students in science, engineering, and related fields. Students take specialized courses taught in English and have opportunities to participate in research activities at Tohoku University. They can also take Japanese language and culture courses while experiencing daily life in Japan. The program provides a unique opportunity to combine

academic study and research at one of Japan’s leading universities with Japanese language and cultural experiences.
