Spanish MA Student Wins Prestigious Juan Bosch Prize

Winner of the 2025 Juan Bosch Short Story Prize, Rodolfo Báez is a second-year master’s student in Spanish at Baylor. His story El moreno earned first place in one of the Dominican Republic’s most prestigious literary competitions, praised by the jury as “a harrowing indictment of forced migration, poverty, and vulnerability,” told with striking honesty and emotional depth.

Originally from the Dominican Republic, Báez is also a writer, editor, and educator with master’s degrees in Fiction Series Direction (Universidad de Nebrija, Madrid) and in Editorial Design and Digital Publishing (Universidad Internacional de Valencia and Escola S Spanish MA Student Wins Prestigious Juan Bosch Prize uperior de Disseny de Barcelona). He has taught at several Dominican universities since 2016.

He came to Baylor to deepen his literary training, experience a new culture, and explore new creative directions—driven by a passion for learning and the many forms narrative can take.
