Major/Minor Requirements
At a Glance
For a French major, a student needs a combination of 9 required and elective advanced courses (see details below).
For a secondary major, a student needs a combination of 7 required and elective advanced courses (see details below).
For a minor, a student needs to take any 4 advanced French courses.
Requirements for a Major in French
Thirty semester hours of French with at least twenty-seven of these hours at the 3000-4000 level including the following:

FRE 3301 - Advanced French Grammar and FRE 43CO - Capstone

(FRE 3337 - French Civilization and FRE 3338 - Contemporary France) or (FRE 4331 - French Writers and Ideas I and FRE 4332 - French Writers and Ideas II)

In addition to 43C0, at least three semester hours at the 4000 level in French.

FRE 2320 can be included in the required thirty semester hours.

Requirements for a Secondary Major in French
Twenty-seven semester hours of French with at least twenty-one of these hours at the 3000-4000 level including the following:

FRE 3301 - Advanced French Grammar and FRE 43CO - Capstone

(FRE 3337 - French Civilization and FRE 3338 - Contemporary France) or (FRE 4331 - French Writers and Ideas I and FRE 4332 - French Writers and Ideas II)

Requirements for a Minor in French
Eighteen semester hours including twelve at the 3000 or 4000 level.
